Kaohsiung International Airport Office commits to Net Zero Emission by 2050

In response to the " Taiwan’s Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions in 2050 " declared by the National Development Council in March this year, Kaohsiung International Airport actively promoted actions to reduce carbon emissions and conserve energy. Moreover, Kaohsiung International Airport held the "Kaohsiung International Airport Partnership of Emission Reduction " Launching Ceremony on 24th October 2022. 36 partners was invited by Director Fu Yao-Nan. The partners are from sectors including, duty-free shop, public utilities, finance, airline partners and government departments all pledging support for Kaohsiung International Airport 's goal of achieving net zero airport before 2050.
 
During the ceremony, Director Fu Yao-Nan emphasized countries adopting Net-zero 2050 Aspirational Goal is a global trend. The "Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Management Act" was officially revised to "Climate Change Response Law" in Taiwan, green fleets play a vital role in Taiwan's implementation of net zero emissions as well. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Kaohsiung International Airport spares no effort in promoting energy conversation and carbon reduction to become a net zero airport. Aside from Kaohsiung International Airport conducting ISO 14064 greenhouse gas inventory which verified by third-party every year, Kaohsiung Airport also has been awarded Level 3 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme (ACA) by Airports Council International (ACI). Partners in airports has taking actions to achieve deep decarbonization together, such as adopting high-efficiency air conditioners, switching to LED lighting, transitioning to low carbon fleets, and installing solar power generation systems. Obtaining Level 3 certification Airport Carbon Accreditation indicates that Kaohsiung International Airport performs well in greenhouse gas inventory, carbon reduction management, and communication well with all airport partners.
 
In order to maintain the level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation and actively achieve the level 4 (or above) Airport Carbon Accreditation, Kaohsiung International Airport has planned a three-year "Kaohsiung International Airport Partnership of Emission Reduction Plan" from 2023 to 2025. " Kaohsiung International Airport Partnership of Emission Reduction Plan" is based on the 6 major strategies of “Greenhouse Gas Inventories”, “Dissemination of Environmental Information”, “Maximizing Renewable Energy”, “Energy Efficiency Improvement”, “Energy Management and Inspection”, and “Internal Carbon Footprint Management”. Kaohsiung International Airport encourages airport partners to cut carbon emissions based on per passenger and transportation every year. By cooperating with airport partners, it empowers Kaohsiung International Airport to make further strides in managing and reducing their carbon footprint to achieve Net Zero Airport by 2050.
